3 Weapon Programme
The next East Midlands Region England Fencing
Coach Development programme will be for anyone
wishing to qualify in foil, sabre or epee at
Level 1 or 2. Candidates for Level 2 must hold
a valid Level 1 Coach certificate. The programme
will take place on the following dates:
Saturday 26 May
Saturday 30 June
Sunday 15 July (First Aid and Child Protection)
Sun 2 Sep
Sun 16 Sep
Sun 7 Oct (Mock exams)
Sun 28 Oct (Assessment)
Please note
All sessions will be at Dayncourt School Specialist
Sports College, Radcliffe-on-Trent or another
venue close by and will start at 09:30 and finish
at 16:30.
The fee (including First Aid course, Child Protection
seminar, exam registration, CRB check paperwork,
course notes, share of venue hire and coach
educator 's time) is £200.
Those who can produce valid certificates for
First Aid and/or Child Protection will pay a
reduced fee.
Those wishing to prepare for Level 2 in a weapon
must have a valid Level One Coach certificate
in that weapon or prove that they have worked
under the tuition of a coach educator for a
minimum of 30 hours training.
Partial or full help with course costs might
be available through your local Community Sports
Initiative or Local Authority Sports Development
Office.
Course Invitations followed by Joining Instructions
will be coming out shortly to all those who
have put their names down.
Warning: Coach development can seriously
improve your knowledge of fencing and enhance
the development of your club! If you don't believe
this, just think
of the fantastic example of 'Foiled Again' in
Derby who have gone from being a once a fortnight
club to a seven sessions (two on Thursday, five
on Saturday) a week club, simply by sending
five club members on the last Level 1 course!

SECRETARY APPOINTED AS
ENGLAND FENCING COACH DEVELOPMENT CONSULTANT
England Fencing has announced that Norman Randall,
Honorary Secretary of the East Midlands Region
of England Fencing, has been appointed as Coach
Development Consultant with a specific remit
to develop a rigorous and sustainable coach
development scheme for England Fencing. Norman
will be working closely with England Fencing's
Director of Coaching, Bob Bales. The project
is expected to take 12 months to full implementation
with a short period after that for review.
Norman has been a fencer for over 40 years
and a coach since 1979. He holds an England
Fencing Level 4 Coach qualification in three
weapons and a Diploma in Sports Psychology.
Last year he was appointed as an England Fencing
Assistant Coach Educator. He currently coaches
at Nottingham University, Radcliffe Sword Club,
Sherwood Cadets Fencing Club, Radcliffe-on-Trent
Junior School and occasionally assists at the
East Midlands Cadet Squad - the Region's Centre
of Excellence for up-and-coming young fencers
from around the East Midlands.
Norman runs a Training and Development consultancy
specialising in leadership development, training
design and management, change management and
executive coaching. He says, 'I feel very fortunate
to have been appointed to this post by England
Fencing because it combines my day job with
my love of fencing and coaching. I will be consulting
locally, regionally and nationally as well as
with the governing bodies of Scotland, Wales
and Northern Ireland to develop the most effective
processes, systems and procedures for the training
and development of fencing coaches at all levels
and weapons, to establish a robust and respected
Coach Development Scheme for England Fencing.'
